Becoming a Great Mentor™
A developmental Program for People-Centered Leaders
Ignite transformation from the inside out
by developing your mentors.
Let's face it. Great mentors are hard to find, and becoming even rarer within companies and organizations.
Because the hard truth is, cultivating really great mentorship is massively ignored in most places. And that’s a huge problem because we can’t effectively scale our people and culture development, or meet the needs of growing teams and people without clear, consistent, and trustable guidance from humans who have been in our shoes.
Without a network of trusted mentors, our people are left to go it alone, and there’s no clear roadmap to support their careers and growth. And this is especially crucial given the incidence of professional burnout and upheavals in today’s workplace.
Even worse, when our mentors themselves lack the understanding of how to confidently mentor for development, empowerment and self-actualization, they have little to go on except instincts and common sense. While that can be comforting for some, it’s certainly not effective in creating a more agile and responsive culture.
What we really want in our mentoring programs is to help our mentors leverage their innate talents, and longtime professional or disciplinary experience, in service of much greater yield from their gifts of know-how and hard-won wisdom.
Becoming a Great Mentor™ was designed for just these reasons…to give organizations and the people within a path to becoming a more impactful mentor.
In this streamlined and immersive 5-month program, mentors will go from feeling limited in how to mentor to feeling confident in their capacity to intentionally structure a meaningful mentoring relationship and to generate a much wider range of skillful responses that meet people as they are.
When the impact that each mentor can generate is recognized, and then developed, organizations will experience powerful generational shifts in the organization’s capacity to thrive through any challenge.
And, if this is something your organization is missing from your suite of developmental tools, are you ready to help your people become the great mentors they’ve always been destined to be?

Meet Our Founder
Rebecca Ejo Colwell
Founder & PRINCIPAL
Hi, I’m Rebecca. I’m a masterful integral facilitator, strategist and coach, co-creator of Integral Facilitator®, and the Founder of Ten Directions. For over thirty years, I have been facilitating and inspiring others to practice facilitative leadership and meet the challenges of a wide range of cultural, systems and social issues. I am one of two world experts in Integral Facilitation®.
My interest in facilitation and leadership dates back to childhood. At an early age, I remember being fascinated by how people got things done together. Witnessing how actively involved my parents were in our larger community, I consistently found myself wondering, “What happens in those conversations where the adults are talking, and what is it that ‘grown-ups’ do to make things happen?”
The curiosity of a young inquisitive mind planted the seeds for a lifelong interest and exploration around leadership and a passion for discovering different ways individuals can create a more positive impact through working better, together.
After 30+ years working, consulting and training leaders and organizations around the globe, I noticed a consistent trend.
Organizations that called on me were struggling because (1) their leaders had never actually been taught the facilitative skills to effectively communicate, collaborate and confidently empower their teams and (2) because leaders lacked the “developmental know-how” they needed to grow people’s innate talent and capacity in service of a shared vision and longterm success.
Time and time again, I saw large initiatives on the brink of collapse – and folks struggling to understand where it all went wrong. And I realized that one of the best places to diagnose organizational challenges was by assessing its leadership, mentorship, learning and meeting culture.
That’s why I created “Becoming a Great Mentor™” because even though mentors are limited in supply, I believe mentors are crucial to creating more thriving relationships, more trust and creative contributions. Great mentoring can be the force that elevates all of us to become fully supported to navigate our challenges and growth edges to achieve more together than we could ever do alone.
I’ve helped leaders in Fortune 500 companies, public sector organizations, start-ups, non-profits, and initiatives of all kinds, discover the transformative power of collaboration and what becomes achievable when we are willing to learn and grow together.
And now, with my Ten Directions team and this new course, we can help you catalyze an inspired mentorship culture that brings your shared vision and people-centered values to life.
Excerpt: "Forward-thinking organizations need to create environments that embrace and unlock the potential of the whole employee," says Linda Jingfang Cai, Global Head of Learning and Talent Development at LinkedIn. However, many organizations invest in mentoring programs to achieve this goal, but they fall short in recognizing the added value of investing in their mentors. When mentors lack the understanding of how to confidently mentor for development, empowerment, and self-actualization, they have little to go on except for their instincts and common sense. This is not effective in creating a more agile and responsive culture.
